Companion: A Sci-Fi Thriller Featuring Killer Robots and a Quaid Identity Crisis

informative

You ever wake up and just need to watch a movie? Like, your soul craves cinematic distraction? That was me today, so I went with Companion—a film that’s apparently beloved by critics (thank you, Rotten Tomatoes).

The Premise:A relaxing weekend getaway goes straight to hell when a subservient android designed for human companionship, malfunctions in the stabby stabby kind of way.

The Cast

Sophie Thatcher (Yellowjackets)—surviving yet another terrifying experience.

Jack Quaid (The Boys)—we’ll talk about him in a second.

Harvey Guillén (What We Do in the Shadows)—a delight as always.

Rupert Friend (Hitman: Agent 47)—still rocking that intense guy energy.

The Review

The movie was… fine. Solidly entertaining. Not life-changing, but good for a “Hey, let’s watch people get chased by a robot” kind of night. However, I have one major distraction—Jack Quaid.

Now, I’m sure Jack Quaid is a lovely person. But here’s the thing: he is the genetic offspring of Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid, and boy, does it show. Most of the time, he looks like Jack Quaid. But the moment he smiles or gets mad, he transforms into Dennis Quaid. His entire face Quaid-ifies. And yet… the voice doesn’t match. It’s like watching Dennis Quaid with the wrong audio track. My brain refuses to process it.

So, while Companion had its thrills, the true horror for me was trying to reconcile Jack Quaid’s face with Jack Quaid’s voice. A psychological thriller in itself.

The Review

3.5/5 stars ⭐⭐⭐✨. Worth a watch—just try not to stare at Jack Quaid too hard.
