Wes Gordon absolutely nailed his vision for the Carolina Herrera F/W 2025 Ready-to-Wear Collection this week in New York, proving that inspiration can come from the most unexpected places—including a quiet, enigmatic gardener from a 1970s novel. Yes, you read that right. Gordon drew from Being There (1970) by Jerzy Kosiński, and its 1979 film adaptation starring Peter Sellers, channelling the wisdom of Chance the Gardener (a.k.a. Chauncey Gardiner).
“Growth has its season. There are spring and summer, but there are also fall and winter. And then spring and summer again. As long as the roots are not severed, all is well, and all will be well.”
—Chance the Gardener, Being There (Carolina Herrera Fall 25 Press Release)
Gordon took this Zen-like reflection on the cycles of nature and transformed it into something quite tangible—the idea of ephemeral beauty, that fleeting, perfect moment when everything aligns and the garden (or, in this case, the runway) is at its most radiant.
The runway transformed into a mesmerizing autumnal dreamscape, where nature’s most striking shades took center stage. Deep forest greens conjured the mystery of shadowed groves. Soft, smoky grays draped the collection in an air of quiet sophistication, like the sky just before twilight. Wine-soaked reds mirrored the final leaves of fall, clinging stubbornly to their branches. These rich, organic tones effortlessly transitioned into a more vibrant spectrum—elusive periwinkle purples that wavered intriguingly between twilight and dawn, luminous whites exuding an almost otherworldly glow, and bold fuchsias crackling with energy.
When it came to the looks, all 66 pieces masterfully balanced bold structure with delicate femininity. Finishing touches of gold buttons, statement earrings, and sculptural tulip appliqués added just the right dose of grandeur.
