REVIEW: Softness Reimagined – Inside Shelli Oh’s Fall/Winter 2025 Collection

Shelli Oh’s latest collection hit the runway like a sugar-coated storm—dreamy, decadent, and theatrically unafraid. With her signature blend of soft surrealism and sculptural craftsmanship, the designer delivered a lineup that flirted with fantasy while keeping one pointed heel in the realm of elegance.

The show opened with a vision in mint green—a gown that floated down the runway like a whispered spell. One-shouldered and softly asymmetrical, the dress featured a sheer, diaphanous overlay gathered around a glistening, crystal-encrusted bodice that caught the light like frozen dew. Layers of gauzy tulle rippled down the skirt in undulating waves, giving the model the illusion of gliding through water. Her towering, sculptural hairstyle—wisps of white and seafoam spiralling upward—completed the otherworldly effect. It was the perfect opener: a declaration that this collection would not be loud, but it would be unforgettable. Power, here, was woven in softness.

Oh leaned heavily into mint tones this season, and they paid off. A series of looks—including a seafoam green tulle dress, a matching cape with crystal embellishments on a bare-chested model, and a feathered shift—formed the pastel heart of the collection. The mint theme bridged traditionally gendered fashion, softening masculine and feminine silhouettes into something fresh and fluid.

Other highlights pushed the narrative forward with bold contrasts and confident construction. One standout piece combined teal metallic florals with a dramatic high-low silhouette and a giant sculptural white rose at the shoulder. Another dazzled with sleek black trousers and a tailored jacket dotted in shimmering motifs—classic suiting reimagined with a wink of glam rock.

Oh’s signature volume play reached its theatrical peak in a white, cloudlike mini-dress crafted from rosette-like folds that formed a full-body bouquet. Think Marie Antoinette in the metaverse—bold, romantic, and slightly unhinged in the best way.

For the finale, Oh brought the show to a breathtaking close with a gown that felt like a living sculpture. The strapless bodice, crafted in a monochrome painterly print, was cinched at the waist with a sweeping bow before erupting into a voluminous cascade of sculpted white petals. The skirt moved like feathers caught in slow motion—weightless, ethereal, yet unmistakably commanding. This was not just a dress, but a finale in motion—a statement of transformation, elegance, and bold romanticism. With each step, it reminded the room that in Shelli Oh’s world, fashion doesn’t walk—it floats.

Shelli Oh’s F/W 2025 collection was a study in whimsy with precision. There’s a clear reverence for craftsmanship, but it’s delivered with irreverence—a wink rather than a bow. The silhouettes command space. The textures invite touch. The palette whispers instead of shouts—yet refuses to fade into the background.
